A one-story home that was engulfed in fire at 345 Thompson Road in Rice Wednesday resulted in the home being a total loss, according to an official who responded to the fire.
A.Q. “Andy” Ellington, a member of Rice Volunteer Fire Department, said Thursday morning that the fire was reported shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Ellington said Rice Volunteer Fire Department, Farmville Fire Department and Burkeville Fire Department responded to the fire.
He said water from multiple department trucks was used to extinguish the flames.
Ellington said the cause of the fire isn’t currently known.
He said there were multiple occupants in the home at the time of the fire. Ellington said one person was transported to Centra Southside Community Hospital with minor injuries. He said injuries were believed to have been caused when the person escaped from the home through a window.
Ellington said the Red Cross is assisting those affected by the fire.
