Middle School Bible Bee

Central Virginia Christian School in Dillwyn held its annual Middle School Bible Bee on Jan. 22. Students were selected to represent their respective classes. Angelique Lightbody won first place followed by Gavin Yoder in second place.
The Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) of Concord Baptist Church hosted a spaghetti dinner for the Baptist Collegiate Ministries group of Longwood University. The supper was held at the Baptist Student Union building on Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. The Longwood students enjoyed hot spaghetti, garlic bread, tossed salad, beverages and homemade desserts of brownies and cinnamon bread. Numerous ladies, and a few men, from the church assisted with the event. Concord Baptist Church is located at the intersection of Francisco and Deer Run Roads at Sheppards. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. and worship services begin at 11 a.m. each Sunday. Everyone is welcome to attend.
If you happened to miss the open house for Weight Watchers at Central Virginia Community Health Center (CVCHC) on Jan. 31, no problem. You can still get in on this series of meetings continuing Feb. 7. Or you can wait until the next series that begins Feb. 21, with a kickoff meeting that day. If you attend the kickoff, you can receive a 15 percent discount. And remember Wellness Wednesday at CVCHC where there is free use of the gym each Wednesday in February. Also, starting Feb. 2, CVCHC is offering a new class called TKO Dance. This is a hip-hop style exercise program that is sure to give you a great workout. On Friday, Feb. 1, come enjoy a Library Late Night at the Buckingham Public Library located at 1140 Main Street in Dillwyn. The library will reopen from 6-7 p.m. for Geometric Painting. Use strips of tape to turn a blank canvas into a fun work of art. Come out and bring the kids for an evening of fun and family time.
Buckingham Elementary School students have the opportunity to explore the pages of Lunch Money by Andrew Clements, participate in hands-on activities, and begin writing their own book, in a program sponsored by the Virginia Cooperative Extension – Buckingham office. This program will be held at the Buckingham elementary cafeteria every Wednesday from Feb. 6 to March 20 from 4:30-4:45 p.m. For more information, call the extension office at (434) 969-4261.
