John “Calvin” Cook, 89 of Burkeville passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at his residence.

He was born October 30, 1929 to the late Adam Lee and Winnie Harper Cook. He was married for 65 years to Betty Dunnavant Cook. Mr. Cook worked all his life as a Tobacco and Cattle Farmer.

He served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Director at Bagby Memorial Baptist Church. His favorite hobbies were deer and turkey hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, especially all his beloved grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his four sisters, Virginia Jewett, Louise Romeo, Agnes Glenn and Helen Stiebel.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Dunnavant Cook, his children, Sylvia Schutt (Robert), Alan Cook (Pam), Dale Cook (Cheryl) and Randy Cook (Laura Lee); his eight grandchildren, Adam and Matthew Schutt, Clay Cook, Bristan Campbell, Amy Williams, J.T., Aaron and Daniel Cook; also, eight great grandchildren and his beloved dog, Lucy.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, 11 a.m. at Bagby Memorial Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. Family received friends on Tuesday, January 29, at the Puckett Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Bagby Memorial Baptist Church. Puckett Funeral Home served the family.
