The Heart of Virginia can expect some snowfall beginning Saturday afternoon into Sunday evening, according to a report from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield.
While it was too early to tell for exact measurements as of Wednesday, Meteorologist Jon McGee said snow is set to begin falling over the weekend, stopping before Monday.
“The best time to see the snow is going to be Saturday afternoon, and then pretty much through the day on Sunday, and then kind of tapering off Sunday night,” McGee said.
He said that cold temperatures forecast for the weekend could mean the snow sticking until early the following week.
“I would be prepared for accumulating snow that’s going to have some travel impacts,” McGee said.
The NWS forecast cited Wednesday that chances of precipitation from Saturday evening into Sunday is expected to be approximately 70 percent for Buckingham, Cumberland and Prince Edward.
McGee said moisture associated with a low pressure system is what is expected to create the snow.
