Spreading God’s Gifts will be having a Valentine’s Dinner at First Baptist Church in Dillwyn on Feb. 2 beginning at 5 p.m. Cody Moss will bring the music. All are welcome and supper is by donation. For more information, call (434) 983-2269.
When it comes to snow shoveling, we all want to get it done in a hurry because it can be such a chore. But remember to stay hydrated and don’t over exert yourself. Remove layers of clothing as you become too warm and don’t stay in extremely cold temperatures too long. Take breaks as necessary and do small areas at a time, resting in between. Pace yourself and don’t overdo it. Snow can be fun, but it can also create work for us at the same time.
The Buckingham Public Library will feature a Library Late Night on Friday. The library will reopen from 6-7 p.m. Join them for classic board games, snacks and library bingo. On Saturday, enjoy a themed-filled workshop on Snow Days where you can create a snow painting, make snow slime and learn about how snow is made. You will also have the opportunity to view the movie Frozen at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Don’t forget that the Buckingham/Dillwyn Garden Club is attending the 2019 Philadelphia Flower Show on March 3-5. There is still time and space if you are interested in attending. Tour is being provided by Travel in Style, Midlothian, with departure from Dillwyn Food Lion. For details or additional information contact Barbara Wheeler at (434) 547-8997 or bwheel@ comcast.net.
Members of the Buckingham Bee Club enjoyed participating in the Farmville Christmas Parade. The club meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Buckingham Agriculture Center. For more information, contact them at buckinghambeeclub@gmail.com or call the Buckingham Extension Office at (434) 969-4261.
Jacob Eubanks and Josh Metzger, along with an anonymous benefactor and friend, provided the beautiful star atop Willis Mountain. It has warmed many a heart and can be seen here and yon. For those who haven’t seen it yet, ride along U.S. Route 15, especially going from Sprouse’s Corner toward Farmville, and it will rise out of nowhere at Peaceful Valley/Willis Mountain. Happy new year to everyone.
So grateful for the few extra minutes of sunlight each day. The slightly longer days help remind us that spring is coming. I hope everyone enjoyed their time over the holidays, reflecting on the year gone by and looking forward to the new one.
