VFW essay contest winners

The VFW Post 8446 in Buckingham recently announced winners of the local VFW essay contest. Placing first was Gavin Yoder, and receiving the second place honor was Noah Jones. Both are students at Central Virginia Christian School. The two winners received a certificate and a cash award.
Concord Baptist Church, located at 12053 Francisco Road at Sheppards, will hold a Christmas Eve service, Monday at 5 p.m. All are welcome to attend. The Rev. Rick Caldwell will lead the service.
Buckingham Triad wishes the community happy holidays. Buckingham Triad will be meeting next on Jan. 10, at 1:30 p.m. at the VFW Hall on Route 60 in Buckingham County.
The Buckingham Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Awards Banquet on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the Dillwyn Fire Department. Tickets may be purchased at Moss Motor or reserved by calling (434) 983-2372. Nominations are requested for Volunteer of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, Business of the Year and Youth Achievement Award. If you know of a deserving individual in any of these categories, please nominate them. Deadline for nominations is Dec. 28 and may be faxed to (434) 983-4891 or mailed to P.O. Box 951, Dillwyn, VA 23936.
There is still time and space if you are interested in attending the 2019 Philadelphia Flower Show. A bus trip scheduled for March 3-5, which includes travel, hotel, breakfast and a ticket to Flower Show and Longwood Gardens. Tour is being provided by Travel in Style, Midlothian, with departs from Dillwyn Food Lion and is hosted by the Buckingham/Dillwyn Garden Club.
