A public hearing for a proposed 52-unit apartment project has been scheduled for the Farmville Town Council’s December meeting on Dec. 12.

The meeting had initially been scheduled for the November council meeting, Town Mayor David Whitus said during the council’s meeting Nov. 14, but applicant Fred Pearson said he would be out of town on that day. Whitus said that Pearson requested that the council move the hearing to the December meeting.

The proposed apartment project would be on approximately 6 acres of land in the area of Vernon Street, located adjacent to Parkview Gardens, which is an 80-unit, multifamily apartment community.

The apartments for the proposed project, according to Pearson in a previous interview, would be built to look like townhouses with three bedrooms and three bathrooms.

The property, owned by Pearson, consists of 6.66 acres and is currently zoned as Residential-3 for multi-family dwellings. The apartments would be built to address demand for housing in the area, Pearson said, saying he has not had issues finding owners for the units he rents in the area currently.
