Story of the Amelia Doughboys

Sunday, Nov. 11, Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park will host retired Col. Michael Whitaker as he tells the story of the Amelia Doughboys, the young men who fought in WWI. Current President of Amelia Historical Society, Col. Whitaker served 23 years active duty as an Air Force Intelligence Officer.

Col. Whitaker will recount the Doughboys’ journey from Amelia to the battlefield, exploring the draft, camp life, deployment overseas and life and death on the Western Front in 1917-1918.
