Dukes fall to Statesmen

Cumberland County High School’s varsity football team fell 46-6 to host Randolph-Henry High School on Friday night to seal the Dukes’ second consecutive 0-10 regular-season finish.

“In spots we didn’t play bad defensively,” Cumberland Head Coach Jamaal Artis said. “… Playing against an offense like that, they were in a double wing like Central and like Buckingham … it really exposes the fact that we are not very strong and we’re very young in a lot of spots up and and down the offensive and defensive line. So it’s just tough. Until we get kids in the weight room and you get kids to buy into the fact that weights are important, offseason is important, we’re going to keep having problems like this.”

Senior Ziahir Berry provided a highlight, finishing the game with 11 carries for 97 yards, including a 78- yard touchdown.
