BUCKINGHAM, October 14 — Maurice P. Manchester, 82, of Buckingham died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Hunter McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond. He was born November 2, 1931 in Warwick, Rhode Island, the only child of the late Maurice Gladding and Miriam Phillips Manchester. The family moved to Buckingham when he was a teenager.

Mr. Manchester served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Vietnam and Okinawa. He was a farmer and timber cutter. He was a soft spoken and loving person. He loved the quiet country life.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Mary Agee Manchester; a son, Maurice (Buddy) Manchester and his wife, Carol Sue and grandson, Barry; a daughter, Karen Newton of Lake Ridge and her children J.R. and Becky and great-grandchildren, Ayers, Devin and Glenn; a step-daughter, April Adams and her husband, Van of Drakes Branch and grandchildren, Ashley, Megan and Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Billie Lawson Manchester.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 19 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Glenmore, with the Rev. Halley Willcox. Mason Rites will be conducted by George Lodge #32 where Mr. Manchester was a member for 58 years.

The family will greet friends after the service in the church dining hall or anytime at his home.

The Cremation Society of Virginia is serving the family.
