Wise named grand champion

Tanner Wise of Buckingham participated in the Five County Fair Youth Sheep show on Sept. 24. Tanner placed second in senior showmanship sheep class. He also won first place and Grand Champion in the hair sheep meat class with his December 2017 born Katahdin ewe lamb, born and raised on Poplar View Farm. Tanner is a member of Buckingham County 4-H Livestock Club and Buckingham County High School FFA and is in the ninth grade. He is the son of David and Sherri Wise of Buckingham.
The Curdsville Community Center will have its potluck dinner meeting on Monday, at 6:30 p.m. There will be a presentation on a new organization called Citizens for a Safe Society. Everyone is welcome. Please bring your favorite covered dish or dessert. The Curdsville Community Center is located just off U.S. Route 15, east on 633, on School Road
Concord Baptist Church held its annual Fall Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 27. Around 200 members and guests enjoyed stew and homemade desserts. Children enjoyed train rides, face painting, and outdoor games. At dusk, 70 trick or treaters joined the fun with Trunk or Treat at the church’s Focus Center. Concord Baptist Church is located at the intersection of Francisco and Deer Run Roads. Sunday school is held each Sunday at 10 a.m. and worship services begin at 11 a.m. The Rev. Rick Caldwell serves as the church’s pastor.
The Buckingham Library hosts activities nearly each week day to include, Monday from 5-7 p.m. a special teens’ activity. Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. is pre-school story time while Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. is an after-school activity for children ages 6-12. Fridays at noon features family movie time. A special for this week includes on Friday, the library will reopen at 6 p.m. for special yarn crafts. Families can create a variety of things from mini monsters to Popsicle stick critters. Spreading God’s Gifts will be hosting a dinner Nov. 3 at the VFW hall in Buckingham Courthouse. Dinner will include barbecue, baked beans, coleslaw, dessert, and beverage and is by donation only. Music by Smokey Wilson. All are welcome. For more information, call (434) 983-2269.
