RICHMOND, October 7 — Thomas A. Williams, 72, of Richmond, passed away, peacefully on Sunday morning, September 28, 2014 surrounded by his three children. He taught voice at Longwood University from 1979-2007, retiring with the title of Associate Professor Emeritus of Music.

Mr. Williams is survived by a sister, Joanne Edmonson; children, Jennifer Westcott, Kate Williams and Joel Williams; grandchildren, who knew him as “Gus”, Alan, Andrew, Rebecca, Henry, Alice and Isaac; and Baby Doe, his loving rescue dog, who was at his side until the end.

A memorial service will be held on October 18 at 11 a.m. at VCU’s James Black Music Center – Recital Hall at the corner of Grove Avenue and Harrison Street.

Donations may be made to the Richmond Animal League or St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
