OCTOBER 5

LCVA CABIN FILM SERIES, 7 p.m. returns with the screening of the 1979 film, “The Amityville Horror.” The event, which will be hosted at the Longwood Cabin, is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

6TH ANNUAL HIGH BRIDGE HALF-MARATHON & 5K, 6 a.m.- noon, hosted by the Town of Farmville.

FUND SKEET AND TRAP CLASSIC, 8 a.m. at the Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center in Appomattox.

WOMEN’S AND MEN’S DAY, 11 a.m. at High Bridge Baptist Church, Rice. Women’s guest preacher is Minister Kim Ashton of Farmville. Asking all women to wear white. Dinner will be served. The men’s guest preacher is the Rev. Richard Rather of Burkeville along with his choir, ushers and congregation. All are welcome.

WOMEN OF THE WAR PRESENTATION, 1-3 p.m. at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield.

LAVINIA SIMS SCHOLARSHIP SERVICE, 3 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 16 Horsepen Road, Farmville. Denise and The Travelers will be in concert. Come and share with us as we celebrate Lavinia’s Life and continue her memory in this Scholarship Fund.

FALL FARM FEST, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Historic Village at Lee Wayside in Buckingham featuring the Haversacks and Hardtack String Band. Free admission. Music, great food, lots of farm animals, antique tractors, arts and crafts, mums, buggy rides and more. Sponsored by Buckingham Farm Bureau and Historic Buckingham Inc. INDOOR YARD SALE, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. at New Store Baptist Church, 9637 Francisco Road, Sheppards, to benefit the building fund.

BENEFIT YARD SALE, 9 a.m. next to the Farmville Church of Christ, 1401 Milnwood Road. Dishes, glassware, crafts, and collectibles all being sold to benefit the Heart of Virginia Free Clinic where medical professionals offer free medical care to uninsured adults from our community.

CAR/BIKE SHOW, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at 2816 Ranson Road, Dillwyn to benefit Ebenezer Baptist Church.

BENEFIT YARD SALE, for the New Witt Baptist Church of Farmville at the Prince Edward Lodge #269, Main Street, Farmville.

BRUNSWICK STEW, 11:45 a.m. at Douglas Presbyterian Church to benefit various mission projects of the church. Stew master is Joyce Slayton.

KING/QUEEN PAGEANT, 4 p.m. sponsored by the Cumberland County Branch N.A.A.C.P at Bright Hope Center. The Rev. Dr. Maurice Carter, Pastor of Crystal Cathedral in Dillwyn, will be the keynote speaker. For information and tickets, call (434) 392-5884.

AMATEUR RADIO CLUB, 3 p.m. will meet at the Keysville Fire Department, 500 Osborne St., behind Food Lion. We welcome all who have an interest in amateur radio, whether you are an operator or would like to become an operator. Come check us out.

ANNUAL HARVEST FESTIVAL, noon-3 p.m. at Cedar Baptist Church, 3932 Bell Road, Dillwyn. There will be hot dogs, soups, ice cream sundaes, bounce house, hayrides, cakewalks, face painting and more. Bring the whole family for lots of fun and fellowship.

NEW BIBLE STUDY FOR WOMEN, 9:30 a.m. entitled Gideon by Priscilla Shirer at Crewe Baptist Church. This study will be held every Sunday upstairs in the education building.

MEN’S DAY SERVICE, 4 p.m. at Ebenezer. Guest preacher will be the Rev. Edward Cobb of Lynchburg with music by the St. Joy Men’s Chorus. All are welcome.

PASTOR ANNIVERSARY, 11:30 a.m. in celebration of the Rev. Otis Johnson, pastor, at Peaks Baptist Church. The Rev. Bill Johnson of St. Paul Baptist Church, Elizabeth, New Jersey, will be the guest.

ANNUAL SERVICE, 11 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, Ca Ira. This is the 175th anniversary of the church. The Rev. Martha Jenkins and the Rev. James D. Smith will conduct the service. The church has been designated as a state and national landmark and the restoration and preservation is ongoing as contributions permit. Lunch on the grounds so bring a dish to share, a chair if you wish and join us for this celebration.

OCTOBER 7-10

137TH CHURCH ANNIVERSARY/FALL REVIVAL, 11 a.m. worship with Pastor Donnie W. Brown at New Hope Baptist, 1909 Cartersville Road, New Canton. Lunch to follow. Afternoon anniversary celebration at 3 p.m. Theme is “We’re Still Standing United.” The Rev. Calvin Booker, pastor of the Slate River Baptist Church will be the guest minister accompanied by his choir and ushers. Revival services will be held Oct. 8-10. Theme is: “Committed to Encouraging; Christian Commitment in Today’s World.” There will be a different guest minister each evening.

REVIVAL SERVICES, 7 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Abilene. Guest speaker, Sunday night will be Dr. Elmer Towns. Monday thru Thursday nights, speaker will be Evangelist Steve Freeman from Colonial Heights. There will be special music each night. Come and share the blessings

SUPER FAFSA NIGHT, 6 p.m. at Buckingham County High School beginning with dinner. Receive hands-on assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the first step to receiving grants and other financial aid for college. REVIVAL, nightly at Cartersville Baptist Church, Cartersville. Let’s make this a community wide revival where all of our brothers and sisters come together, regardless of denomination yet united in Christ, to get excited about our Lord and lead others to Salvation.

INTERESTED SINGERS, 7-10 p.m. to join the Commonwealth Chorale in rehearsing Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio for performances Dec. 2 and 9 at the Farmville Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 200 W. FAMILY AND COMMUNITY LISTENING FORUM, 7:45-9 a.m. at the Darlington Heights Fire Department, to hear Superintendent Dr. Johnson speak and ask for feedback from citizens to continue to move forward.

MONTHLY FELLOWSHIP, noon-1 p.m. at Payne Memorial United Methodist Church, 1 Stoney Point Road, Cumberland. Speaker will be the Rev. Irma Watson and she will speak on the topic of Choosing Life — Being on God’s Side.

TRIAD BUCKINGHAM COUNTY, 1:30-3 p.m. will be hosting an event at the VFW Hall, 14405 W. James Anderson Highway on U.S. Route 60, Buckingham. PACE representatives will be on hand providing information about in-home care as an alternative to a nursing home facility. Representatives from social services, law enforcement, clergy, local government and Piedmont Senior Resources will also be available. Refreshments and door prizes. Open to the public. OPEN HOUSE, 10 a.m.- noon at Delma’s Wellness Center, 1550 Anderson Highway.

UNVEILING, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. at Buckingham Branch Railroad, 1063 Main St., Dillwyn, for the unveiling of Virginia’s newest LOVE sculpture and a celebration of travel and tourism in Buckingham. Ribbon cutting at noon.

MEET AND GREET, 3 p.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Cartersville to meet the new pastor, Pastor Clifford Temple, Jr. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

NSDAR TO MEET, 10:30 a.m. at the Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library, Farmville. Guest speaker will be Jim Davis, of the Farmville Fire Department. The topic of discussion will be “History of the Department.”

ROUTES TO RHYTHM CONCERT SERIES, 1-3 p.m. at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park featuring Alex Brown, a musician and native of Pittsburgh. Free admission.

MAYSVILLE FALL FESTIVAL, 5 p.m. at the Maxey Farm, 93 Village Lane, Buckingham Courthouse. Carnival games, a bounce house and treat bags for every child in attendance. There will also be a homestyle meal served, popcorn, cotton candy, hayrides, live music by Seeing Deep, corn hole and much more. This is a free event.

70TH ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE AND FUNDRAISER, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Farmville Firehouse, 1000 W. Third St., Farmville. Tour the firehouse, food concessions, free fire safety giveaways, bounce house and much more.
