Several dozen families and friends gathered at the entrance of the High Bridge Trail State Park in downtown Farmville on Saturday, sharing camaraderie and a common mission to help families and expectant parents via the Pregnancy Support Center of Southside Virginia.
The annual Walk for Life took place from 8-10 a.m., where people embarked through the trail, choosing to either walk or jog. Babies and dogs accompanied walkers on strollers and leashes respectively. Prior to the walk, participants sang a worship song led by Savannah and Cody Huddleston and prayed.
Kathy Holsopple, director of the Pregnancy Support Center of Southside Virginia, said the main office is located in Farmville with two recently-opened satellite offices on Tuesdays in Dillwyn at Ellis Acres Memorial Park and Appomattox on Church Street on Mondays.
The center works and serves residents in Appomattox, Prince Edward, Buckingham and Cumberland counties.
She said the center offers pregnancy tests, parenting classes, pre- and post-natal resources that include clothing and diapers for babies, resources for nursing mothers and post-abortion support.
“All services are free,” Holsopple said.
“We rely a lot on volunteer help and we have so many we are thankful for,” Holsopple said.
