PRINCE EDWARD —Interested in learning more about a proposed natural gas pipeline project planned to run through a portion of Prince Edward?

The County’s Board of Supervisors has called a special meeting for Tuesday, September 9 at 5:30 p.m. to meet with representatives from Dominion Power and discuss the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline.

The special meeting, it was cited in a County press release, is the only scheduled opportunity for County citizens to ask questions and get answers about the project.

While the meeting—to be held in the County’s circuit courtroom—will be open to the public, only citizens and/or landowners in Prince Edward will be allowed to ask questions following Dominion Power’s presentation.

Dominion Resources planned what it has called the “Southeast Reliability Project” that would slice through western and southern Buckingham and the eastern part of Prince Edward near the Rice community. However, Dominion, Duke Energy, Piedmont Natural Gas and AGL Resources announced Tuesday the formation of a joint venture to build and own the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline, mirroring Dominion’s proposed route. The $4.5-$5 billion, 550-mile natural gas pipeline would run from Harrison County, West Virginia, southeast through Virginia with an extension to Chesapeake, and then south through central North Carolina to Robeson County.

Pending regulatory approval, the pipeline could be in service by late 2018.
