Join the unveiling of Virginia’s newest LOVE sculpture and a celebration of travel and tourism in Buckingham County Oct. 13 with ribbon cutting at noon at the Buckingham Branch Railroad, 1063 Main St., Dillwyn. A community celebration and festival will take place from 10 a.m –2 p.m. The Dillwyn Station will be turned into a fun festival celebrating the Buckingham Branch Excursions 25th Anniversary featuring the dedication of Dillwyn’s own Virginia is for Lovers sculpture made from railroad materials. The event will include games for the kids, a 25- foot train themed bounce house and activity area, food vendors and more. Tourism is an instant revenue generator for Virginia. In 2017, tourism generated $25 billion in revenue, supported 232,000 jobs and provided $1.73 billion in state and local taxes for the Commonwealth. The LOVE works program is an extension of the nearly 50-year-old Virginia is for Lovers brand, designed to promote travel throughout the Commonwealth.

The Pregnancy Support Center of Southside Virginia is expanding its reach in order to serve clients in their home communities. This expansion began in Buckingham County on Tuesdays with a satellite office at Ellis Acres in Dillwyn which opened on Sept. 18. The Pregnancy Support Center, (PSC), serves eight counties: Amelia, Appomattox, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Lunenburg, Nottoway and Prince Edward. The main center is located at 201 Main St. in Farmville. PSC serves pregnant and parenting women, men and their children providing free pregnancy testing, pregnancy support services, material goods, prenatal, infant care, parenting and practical fatherhood classes. All services are free and confidential. PSC’s main fundraiser is the Walk for Life which takes place annually on the High Bridge trail in Farmville. Buckingham Triad will have a guest speaker and presentation from Centra PACE Oct. 11 at 1:30 p.m. at the VFW Hall on Route 60 in Buckingham County. The public is welcome, and light refreshments will be served.

On Friday, Oct. 5, from 6-7 p.m., join the Buckingham Public Library for the “Library Amazing Race.” See if your team can make it through. The library is located at 1140 Main St., Dillwyn.

Buckingham County High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) are hosting a car and truck show Oct. 6 from noon–4 p.m. at the high school parking lot. The next Curdsville Community Center meeting will be Monday at 6:30 p.m. The program will be on bird watching. Find out about the birds in our area. Curdsville Community Center is located at 122 School Road. Everyone is welcome and asked to bring a covered dish to share.

Fall flowers are now on sale at the Buckingham County High School (BCHS) Horticulture Department. Mums and pansies are available this year. Mums come in orange, yellow, white, red, pink and purple, all in 8-inch container. Pansies available in yellow, purple and red. BCHS greenhouse hours are 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Monday – Friday.
