'Life In 1864' At Bear Creek State Park

Published 1:58 pm Tuesday, August 26, 2014

On Sunday August 31 a special event, “Life and Times of 1864,” will be held from noon until 4 p.m. at Bear Creek Hall located at Bear Creek Lake State Park in Cumberland County.

Presented by local historical researchers and American Civil War and Victorian era era-enactor Barbara Cagle, a museum quality display of artifacts, including period clothing, will provide insight into the daily lives of children and women, their arts, games, customs and living conditions. What did they substitute for the foods and medicines they could no longer acquire due to the war? Where are some nearby historical sites, or the remnants of homes now returned to the Cumberland State Forest?

Examine the displays on your own, or enjoy a short presentation given by Ms. Cagle each hour. Also on display will be reproductions of clothing and gear used by the military of both the Northern and Southern armies.
