The second annual pig roast fundraiser from the Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity to set to raise funds for the nonprofit’s Birdhouse Build: a collaborative effort between Prince Edward County Public Schools and Fuqua School to build a home for the Prince Edward County family.

Community Outreach Director Sam Rabon said the pig roast last year at Fuqua School was an enormous success, and he hopes to continue the good food and good spirits this year.

The event is set to take place Saturday, 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Farmville Community Marketplace on 213 N. Street.

The event will contain live music from bluegrass band Stoney Ridge, a full roasted pig, homemade sides and desserts and craft beer from Third Street Brewing.

Rabon said the home for the Robertson family, the family participating in the Birdhouse Build, is getting that much closer to completion.

“It’s moving along well,” Rabon said about the house. “It’s at the stage that … we call ‘dried in,’ which means that the roof is on and the vinyl siding is on, it’s protected from the elements. Now the focus is turning to the interior work.”

He said the organization is continuing to seek volunteers and raise funds for the home.

“We’ve been very encouraged by the community support for this particular build,” Rabon said.
