A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for northeastern Buckingham County until 11:30 p.m.

“At 1113 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Centenary,
moving northeast at 30 mph,” the National Weather Service (NWS) reported.

Wind gusts are possible up to 60 miles per hour.

“The circulation detected in this storm a few minutes ago indicative of a possible developing tornado has weakened and is no longer evident at the current time,” the NWS cited. “60 mph winds and torrential rainfall are still possible with this thunderstorm.”

The NWS asks that residents move to a safe location such as an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and to stay away from windows.

Torrential rainfall is reporting to be occurring with this storm and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
