Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office is taking on the lip sync challenge, and is inviting members of the public to join them.
Filming for the challenge is set to take place Saturday, Sept. 22, 9 a.m. at the Prince Edward County High School track field on 35 Eagle Drive.
Lieutenant Sonya Walker said lip sync challenges, particularly among law enforcement agencies, have become a national trend.
YouTube videos of various police departments participating in the lip sync challenges, re-enacting popular songs, have millions of views.
Walker said she thought the experience would be a bonding experience for both fellow officers and with the county.
Walker said Richmond Urban Dancers Founder Mandy Helmlinger will choreograph the event.
She said the department will lip sync 30-second segments of songs that include “No Parking on the Dance Floor” by Midnight Star and “Afro Puffs” by Farmville-based hip-hop artist The Lady of Rage. Helmlinger has also chosen a few songs that she will introduce the day of the event.
Walker said the event will be family friendly, without inappropriate language or innuendos. A news release from the sheriff’s office cited that anyone under the age of 18 years old would need to be accompanied by an adult and have permission from their parent(s) to be in the video and be recorded.
