Long named CHS Assistant Principal

At the September meeting of the Cumberland School Board, Ashley Long was named Cumberland High School Assistant Principal.
Long, who is currently a reading teacher at Cumberland Middle School, has been employed as a teacher with the school division since July 2009. She has also served as a Summer School Coordinator, a mentor teacher, the Summer School Data Clerk, the Fifth Grade Team Chairperson and the Cumberland Middle School TAG Facilitator.
She has served on numerous committees and work groups, including the Project-based Assessment Team, the Cumberland County Public School Redesign Team, the VTSS/PBIS Committee, the Student Leadership Team, and the Teacher Cabinet. In addition, Long has provided professional development for staff members on PowerSchool, developing evaluation portfolios, using TalendEd and creating electronic gradebooks.
Long, who is a graduate of Cumberland High School, received her associate degree from Southside Virginia Community College, her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Liberty University, and her master of education degree in Administration and Supervision from Liberty University.
She is licensed by the Virginia Department of Education in Elementary Education Pre-K-6 and Administration and Supervision K-12. Long served her administrative internship at Cumberland High School, where she was actively involved in Career and Technical Education planning, including developing the annual plan of study and in mapping career pathways.
Long will officially assume her new position on Sept. 17.
