Weather forecasts are subject to change as the hurricane moves further inland.

The forecasted rainfall from Hurricane Florence for the Heart of Virginia has decreased, but people should still expect to prepare for dangerous flooding and wind damage from the category-two hurricane over the weekend, updated reports from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield cited Wednesday afternoon.

Officials with NWS cited that a Tropical Storm Warning is currently in effect for northeast North Carolina.

The NWS cited that participants could see tropical storm conditions as early as midday Thursday that could linger into Friday night.

Officials forecast rainfall amounts of 2 to 8 inches across much of the area.

“Dangerous flash flooding and flooding Friday and into the weekend is possible, especially across southern VA and northeast NC,” documentation from the NWS cited.

Wind forecasts in the area range from 25-35 mph with gusts up to 50 miles per hour. The Farmville area has an elevated to moderate wind threat.

“With the heavy rainfall forecast, trees will likely be downed from winds which normally would not cause damage,” the NWS cited. “Prepare for considerable wind damage.”
