A single-vehicle accident last week resulted in an outage to nearly 1,000 customers in Prospect, officials from Virginia State Police and Dominion Energy confirmed.
In a release from State Police Public Relations Coordinator Susan Rowland, the incident occurred Wednesday Aug. 22, while the vehicle was traveling westbound on Route 460 near the intersection of Route 656.
“The driver of a 1999 Nissan sedan lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the right side of the road where it struck a guardrail and a power pole,” Rowland said.
The driver and passenger were uninjured in the crash and both were wearing their seat belts, Rowland said.
“The driver, a 15-year-old male of Farmville, was charged with failure to maintain lane,” Rowland said. “The crash remains under investigation.”
Dan Genest, spokesman for Dominion Energy, said the incident was reported to the company at 7:30 p.m. He said the accident resulted in “a broken pole and wire on the ground.”
Genest said 970 customers lost power between 7:30 until 12:15 a.m.
He said the pole was replaced.
