Officers from Virginia State Police (VSP) and Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office were able to revive a Dillwyn resident after administering the resident with NARCAN, a nasal form of naloxone used to treat an opioid overdose, according to a news release from Virginia State Police.

“At approximately 1:45 p.m. … Aug. 21, two Virginia State Police special agents responded to assist the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office with an unresponsive female,” the release cited.

The vehicle was parked on the side of Hill Cross Road in Charlotte Court House in Charlotte County.

“The state police special agents happened to be in the area and immediately responded to the scene upon hearing the call for assistance come across the sheriff’s office radio,” the release cited. “After assessing the situation, the special agents were able to revive the adult female by administering NARCAN. The Dillwyn resident was then transported by ambulance to (Centra) Southside Hospital in Farmville for further medical attention.”

Virginia State Police Public Relations Director Corinne Geller said there was no update to the condition of the victim Friday. The driver’s name was not released as she was not charged with any offense, Geller said.

Police said in the news release all Virginia State Police troopers and special agents were equipped and trained to use NARCAN dispensers beginning July 1.

The state police agents who responded to the incident are assigned to the Tri-County Drug and Gang Task Force, the release cited, which includes the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office, and Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Appomattox Field Office.
