JULY — Gertrude Ayres, 87, of Farmville, went to be with the Lord and reunite with her son, Kenneth Childers Jr. and husband, J.T. Ayres, on Sunday, July 27, 2014. She was born in Keysville/Charlotte County on August 3, 1926 to Laura “Matte” Chaney Echols and Joseph “Terry” Echols.
Mrs. Ayres was an active member in her church, Pisgah Baptist, enjoyed singing in the choir, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren, Crystal Childers Poindexter, Valerie Childers Brown, and a great-grandchild, Shaylah Lowe.
She was the youngest of 12 brothers and sisters, Evelyn, Herly, Blanche, Cabell, Aubrey, Elizabeth, Lester, Edith, Willard, Nellie, and is survived by a sister, Estelle Echols Deaton, 92, of Farmville.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 29 (tonight) from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 30 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
