The Farmville Town Council and Farmville Planning Commission are taking the first steps to make significant changes to the town’s comprehensive plan as well as its zoning ordinance and subdivision ordinance.

Town Clerk Lisa Hricko confirmed the changes Wednesday, and said two meetings in the next two weeks will seek input from members of the community and from The Berkley Group, a local government consulting group based in Bridgewater.

Hricko said the current comprehensive plan was first approved in 2005.

A comprehensive plan for a town or county offers the town a vision for its future and provides a set of guidelines that can help the area reach its goals. A zoning ordinance is a law that defines the use of properties in an area. A subdivision ordinance is a regulation related to the operations of subdivisions.

The first meeting about the comprehensive plan, set for Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the town office, will be a joint meeting between the Farmville Town Council and Farmville Planning Commission. The two organizations will hear from The Berkley Group. Hricko said the consulting group will offer suggestions about how to proceed with the changes and the next steps that need to be taken.

The second meeting, set for Aug. 23, will focus on input from members of the community. The meeting will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Fireman’s Sports Arena at 1328 Zion Hill Road.
