The Buckingham County Board of Supervisors is set to hold a public hearing for a proposed events venue and bedand- breakfast off West James Anderson Highway Monday.

The board’s regular meeting is expected to begin at 6 p.m. at the county administration building, 13360 West James Anderson Highway.

The proposed facility is located at a 135-acre property on Old Thirteen Road on Route 607, off West James Anderson Highway. The applicant is Cynthia Henshaw. The proposed facility would be a bed-and-breakfast, and in addition would be an event venue for social gatherings, weddings, family reunions, even archery tournaments.

The planning commission held a public hearing in June for the proposed facility and voted to recommend to the board of supervisors. Minutes from the June planning commission meeting detailed concerns from neighbors of the proposed event venue including impact of the facility on their animals and agriculture and additional traffic on the road, which according to speakers and Virginia Department of Transportation, is narrow and contains no sodium silicate, a dust preventative.

Danny and Cynthia Henshaw also spoke during the meeting, the meeting minutes cite, and addressed the concerns about impact on animals, neighbors and the roadway.

Planning and Zoning Administrator Rebecca Cobb said in an earlier interview the vote by the commission was six in favor of recommending approval, one voted in opposition and one commission member was absent. Cobb said Commissioner Sammy Smith opposed, and Commissioner Royce Charlton was absent.
