Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to Patsy Jones, of Pamplin, celebrating on Friday, July 11; Jane Grey, of Cumberland, and Florence Miles, of Rice, celebrating on Saturday, July 12; and Steve Morris and Grace Martin, both of Dillwyn, celebrating on Sunday July 13.

Happy Anniversary wishes go out to some special friends Lee and Sandy Sullivan, of Cumberland, celebrating on Saturday, July 12.

Barry and Linda Miles, of Cumberland, along with Jane Cooke, of Brookneal, enjoyed an evening meal at a Farmville restaurant on Wednesday, July 2.

Jody Frye, of Arizona, flew into Raleigh North Carolina last week to meet his mother, Fern Donavan, and her husband, Ralph, of Dillwyn. They spent a few days together in Raleigh before returning home. Everyone had a wonderful time of fellowship together.

Annie may Miles, of Dillwyn, along with Barry and Linda Miles visited a special friend, Ruby Cogdill, on Wednesday, July 9. A nice time was had by all.

Sympathy is extended to the Wise family of Dillwyn. Harry E. Wise, 85, went home to be with the Lord Friday, July 4. A funeral service will be held July 11 at Smyrna United Methodist Church in Sheppards. He will be greatly missed by all but not forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who are sick and shut-in.

Dot Brown, of Richmond, spent a few days last week with her sister, Ann Carter, in Dillwyn.

Hello this week to our dear friends in Christ Georgia Kitchen and Margaret Spencer, both of Buckingham. A little Biblical humor: Which servant of God was the most flagrant lawbreaker in the Bible?

Answer: Moses, he broke all 10 commandments at one time.

Buckingham Baptist Church, located on North James Madison Highway, will hold annual homecoming services on Sunday, July 13.

The day will begin with the Preaching of God’s Word at 10 a.m. with Pastor Doug Adams then at 11 a.m., Southern Gospel music recording artist Smokey Wilson, of Concord, will be in gospel music concert.

Lunch will follow in the church fellowship hall. Pastor Doug Adams and the congregation cordially invite all to attend.

Union Branch Baptist Church, located on Bridgeport Road in Arvonia, will be hosting a fresh pulled pork barbeque dinner on July 11 from 5-7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall to help offset on going expenses of their food bank ministry. Supper includes pulled pork barbeque, bun, baked beans, coleslaw, dessert and a drink for a donation of $7 per person. Pre-orders are recommended, however, walk-ins are also welcome.
