PROSPECT, July 10 — Howard M. “Pete” Campbell, 63, of Prospect, died Tuesday, July 8, 2014. He was born in Farmville on December 8, 1950 to the late Robert Meredith Campbell and Mary Virginia LeWarne Campbell. He lived in Prospect his entire life.
Mr. Campbell worked as an oil delivery person, propane technician and maintenance officer at Piedmont Regional Jail. He loved farming and serving his community as a volunteer firefighter. He was Prospect Volunteer Fire Department President and enjoyed working with the company for 55 years.
As a member of the Board of Supervisors he totally believed in his citizens and his community. He never met a stranger or refused to help anyone.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda Eileen Wilson Campbell; a daughter, Meredith McGary Campbell (Shayla) of Prospect; sisters, Patricia Ann Greene (Paul) of Prospect and Rachel Marie Molnar (Joseph) of Mechanicsville; ”Brothers,” Tommy Hubbard (Pam) of Cumberland and Reggie Eggleston; nephews, Kevin Foster (Erica) of Prospect and Jared Stiegelmeyer (April) of Chesapeake; nieces, Cindy Scheu (Ian) of Moorpark, CA, Stacy Collins (Adam) of Chesapeake, and Sabriel Scheu of Moorpark, CA and numerous cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m.–9 p.m. on Friday, July 11 at the funeral home.
The funeral will be held Saturday, July 12 at 2 p.m. in the Prince Edward County High School Auditorium with interment to follow at Prospect Community Cemetery in Prospect. A reception will follow the graveside service at the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department.
