Ovid Alton Raikes, 87

RICHMOND, July 8 — Ovid Alton Raikes, 87, of Richmond, was born in a log cabin on March 28, 1927 in Nuckols, located in Buckingham County.

He was a retired professional engineer with the State of Virginia. He was a member of May Memorial Baptist Church, Powhatan and a former member of Falling Creek Baptist Church. A special thanks to his friends and the staff of Ginter Hall South for their loving and compassionate care.

He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Gillespie and her husband, Brent and Judy Waters and her husband, Byron; a sister, Eunice R. Williams; grandchildren, Anne and Alyse Gillespie, Louis and his wife, Crystal, Nathan and his fiancee’, Cameron Loviner and Katy Waters; great-grandchildren, Jade, Gage and Liam; nieces, nephews and grand-nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Miriam Worsham Raikes, and his parents, Samuel J. and Ruby LeSueur.

The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 9 at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, where his funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10. Interment will be in Dale Memorial Park at 12:30 p.m. There will not be a formal procession to the cemetery.
