Peter Francisco Soil & Water Conservation District (PFSWCD) announced the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation District’s (VASWCD) 2018 Photo Contest, “Conservation Through the Seasons.” PFSWCD and VASWCD are committed to conservation of natural resources through stewardship and education programs and want to see it through the eyes of Buckingham citizens. People of all ages are urged to capture those vibrant moments and share their photographs depicting what conservation looks like to them throughout the seasons. The contest is open until Aug. 15. Each contestant can submit up to 10 photos.
Photos will be judged by a panel assembled by VASWCD in the following categories: best overall, young photographer (under 18), nine honorable mentions and people’s choice (voting open to public via Facebook to choose favorite among the nine honorable mentions). Buckingham County resident, Maggie Williams, won best overall photo and several honorable mentions for 2017. She received an annual state park pass from VASWCD and $100 from PFSWCD.
The winning photos for 2017 were assembled into a 2018 Conservation Calendar which was given to each contestant whose photos appeared in the calendar. Prizes for the 2018 contest will be announced. Visit the website to view the rules, submit photos, or see last year’s winning photos: https://www.peterfranciscoswcd.org/photo-contest.
It’s almost time, parents and students, because school starts in Buckingham County on Wednesday, Aug. 8. Get your school clothes and backpacks ready to start another exciting year. Good luck to all the students and teachers as the new school year begins. The summer break sure went by quickly. And for all the drivers out there, look for children at bus stops and be cautious with busses on the road. Help keep everyone safe.
