The Buckingham County Coach Pitch All-Star team’s summer has come to an end, but the squad proved that it belonged among the best in the state during its run in the 2018 Virginia Dixie Youth Baseball Coach Pitch State Tournament at Gene Dixon Sr. Memorial Park in Dillwyn. “I think we had a good run in the tournament,” Manager Maurice Jones said of his team, which finished 2-2. “Our guys played great baseball, just fell short to a great baseball team twice. (I’m) very proud of our team performance.” The team Buckingham faced twice was the Goochland All-Star squad, falling 17-8 on Saturday and 14-4 on Monday. The Buckingham All-Stars opened their state-level play July 6 with an 11-5 win against the Bedford Metro All-Star team. On Sunday, Buckingham topped the Emporia-Greensville All-Stars 14-9.
