Darlings All-Stars sweep the district

The Buckingham County Darlings All-Star team went undefeated in the recent Dixie Softball district tournament in Powhatan, defeating the Scottsville All-Stars 16-12 in six innings June 25 to claim the district crown and advance to the state tournament.
The Buckingham squad will come to Farmville on Friday, July 13, to begin play in the 2018 Dixie Softball Darlings All-Star State Tournament at the Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association Field of Dreams.
Buckingham Manager Brandon Morris was pleased by what he saw from his group of 7- to 9-year-old girls during their 4-0 district run.
“They were amazing,” he said. “It’s a hard-working bunch of girls, and they definitely deserved it. They couldn’t have made me any more proud, that’s for sure.”
The squad opened the tournament with a 13-0 victory over the Fluvanna County All-Stars on June 23.
The next day, Buckingham routed the Amelia County All-Stars 15-4.
On June 25, the Buckingham Darlings topped the Goochland All-Stars 9-2 before winning in their championship showdown with Scottsville later in the day.
“The girls kept fighting, and they stayed positive the whole time,” Morris said of the key to the title win.
