Hampden-Sydney College and the Athletics Hall of Fame announce its 31st class to be inducted Saturday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. in the Kirk Athletic Center. Included in the Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2018 are football All-American Vince Hardy, a 1971 graduate, basketball star Chris Fox, a 2000 graduate, four-time All-ODAC golfer Bob Boykin, a 2008 grad, and special citation Dave Wilson, a 1963 grad.

“Being my first year with the college, I was amazed at the quality of candidates that are in the pool of nominees — especially considering the great classes that have already been inducted into our Hall of Fame,” Hampden-Sydney Director of Athletics Chad Eisele said. “The class of 2018 is no exception, and the four inductees are all incredibly deserving as their credentials show. We could not be more excited to honor this class for their outstanding achievements and the mark they have made on Hampden-Sydney athletics.”

Vince Hardy was a three-year starter at offensive tackle for the Tiger football team, while helping the team to a 9-2 overall record as a senior in 1970 with an appearance in the Knute Rockne Bowl. That season, he earned First Team All-Mason-Dixon honors as well as being named to the All-Virginia Small College First Team. During his junior season, he was a Little College All-American while also earning First Team All-Mason-Dixon and All-Virginia Small College honors.

Chris Fox was a four-year contributor on some of the best teams in Hampden-Sydney’s storied basketball history, helping the Tigers to three ODAC Championships, three NCAA Tournament appearances, a national championship game appearance in 1999 and an overall record of 99-18. He was a two-time All-ODAC honoree, earning first team honors as a senior. That same year, while helping the Tigers to a perfect 24-0 regular season, he was named Second Team All-South Region. Upon graduation, he stood third all-time in career steals (207), fourth in assists (342) and 13th in scoring (1,273). Additionally, he was a three-time recipient of the Coaches’ Award and was the 2000 team Defensive Player of the Year.

Bob Boykin had a strong golf career, earning First Team All-ODAC honors in each of his four seasons. Boykin made an immediate impact on the team, leading the Tigers as a freshman with a 76.7 stroke-per-round average. He had six top-20 finishes while winning medalist honors at the Longwood Invitational. He capped off his career as an All-Region honoree in 2007 while being selected as one of five individuals to participate in the NCAA Championship, finishing 30th overall.
