The Farmville Town Office is set to close at noon Tuesday, July 3, the town confirmed Wednesday.
The closure will offer town employees the opportunity to attend the Farmville Independence Day celebration, which will take place at Farmville Regional Airport, 130 Wedgewood Drive.
Members of the Farmville Town Council discussed and made a motion to have the office close at noon Tuesday during a June 22 meeting. Employees will use personal time to compensate for the remaining hours of the day, from noon-4 p.m.
Ward D Councilmember Donald Hunter addressed the issue, noting employees who would attend but work regular hours would face heavy traffic entering the airport.
Town Manager Gerald Spates said the office has taken this step in the past, but said the town would need to notify the public in the event someone visited the office.
Spates said the town will work to notify the public prior to July 3.
