FARMVILLE — This weekend is an opportunity for Virginia fisherman to fish without a license. The Virginia Marine Resources Commission and the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries are allowing Virginia residents to go out and fish areas from June 6 through June 8 and no license is required.
The dates of June 6, 7, and 8 have been designated as Free Fishing Days in Virginia where no fishing license of any kind will be required for rod and reel fishing in freshwater or saltwater, except in designated stocked trout waters.
This is a great time to take the family fishing and boating. With many area residents enjoying this activity, it offers them an opportunity to go to places they may not have been able to visit in the past without a license.
Following the free fishing weekend, if you find a spot that requires a license the annual freshwater and trout licenses aare $23 and annual saltwater fishing licenses are $17.50. In addition to that, there are some short-term licenses that can be purchased through the Game and Inland Fisheries department.
