The next meeting of the Curdsville Community Center will be Monday, July 2, at 6:30 p.m. The program will be presented by Buckingham Sheriff William G. “Billy” Kidd who will share information on legal road signage. Barbecue chicken will be provided by a benefactor, but please bring your favorite covered side dish or dessert. Everyone is welcome. The community center is located at 122 School Road, just off Route 15.
The Buckingham Extension Office is having a photography camp July 16 and 17 from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Participants will learn photography techniques while taking lots of photos. Select a few favorite shots to enter in the Five County Fair. Pack a lunch. Designed for ages 9-13 and space is limited. For more information, contact (434) 969-4261.
Are you still trying to get ready for that beach trip this summer and need some help fitting into that bathing suit? Don’t forget the Weight Watchers meeting at Central Virginia Health Services on Thursday, June 28, at 2:45 p.m.
The Buckingham County Parks and Recreation office offers an ongoing gymnastic program. For ages 3-14 (coed), classes run six weeks. Gymnastics is a great way to learn key things in life such as physical development (strength, flexibility, balance, coordination); social development (interaction with other children, enhancing cooperative group participation, following directions, building friendships); intellectual development (building strong listening skills, developing longer attention spans, reinforcing problem-solving skills, learning to take calculated risks); and emotional development (handling success and failure, expressing feelings). Fall sessions will begin by the end of September. This program is more for beginners and minor advanced. Classes fill quickly so register early. Summer Arts Camp will be held from July 9-13 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Buckingham Arts Center. This camp is geared for ages 7-14. Art activities will include pottery, sculpture, polymer clay, enameling, watercolors, dancing and more. Team Leader positions are available. Holliday Lake is open for public swimming now through Labor Day. There is a fee for beach swimming. Call or visit the website for park fees. Discount swim coupons and annual swimming passes are available at the park only. Holliday Lake State Park has lots to offer.
