Arvon Baptist Church members rose early to prepare a breakfast fit for royalty, or the several fathers who were honored Sunday for Father’s Day.

Participants cracked eggs, cut fruit and potatoes, laid out pastries and cooked pancakes on a griddle.

Bacon and sausages were cooked on outdoor grills.

Angela Bruschi with the church said celebrating people and holidays with a hearty breakfast is nothing new. The church also held breakfasts for Mother’s Day and Easter. She joked the congregation will find any opportunity to eat.

Bruschi, whose husband Jeff pastors the church, said the event is meant to honor fathers in the congregation.

“It’s just to honor fathers and show them how much we appreciate them,” Bruschi said.

Congregants decorated the tables with vases affixed with small bow ties and ties.

Following the breakfast, each father received a gift bag. The oldest father, the youngest father and the father with the most children received larger-scale gifts such as barbecue supplies and car supplies.

Wayne Hunt attends the church and has five children and 11 grandchildren. As he helped with the breakfast by grilling sausage, he said he hopes the event has a more wide-scale impact.

“We’re all here to love the Lord,” Hunt said. “Everybody’s father.”
