The Buckingham Board of Supervisors approved a six-year plan from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) during its meeting June 11.

The plan covers road projects set to take place between fiscal year 2019-2024.

VDOT Engineer Scot Shippee told the board during the May meeting that VDOT had enough in its budget for an additional 6 and a half miles for road projects that the county can use.

There are 23 priority road projects that stretch approximately 22.09 miles, according to the meeting board packet.

Quinn Robinson, of Buckingham, noted that Andersonville Road, which is a winding road, does not deserve the posted speed of 55 miles per hour that other roads in the county have. He noted the risk for those who travel by horse and buggy. He suggested having the speed reduced to 45 miles per hour, at most.

Robinson expressed concern about a large sign that blocks the view of motorists who come out of Route 640 onto U.S. Route 15.

Shippee said VDOT could prepare a speed study for Andersonville Road and conduct a study for the sign for the Route 640/U.S. Route 15 intersection.

He also noted a pothole in the area of U.S. Route 15, turning eastbound on to Route 60, is set to be filled.

William McDaniel, of Buckingham, expressed concern about lack of paving on Route 627, Warren Ferry Road.

Board members and Shippee told McDaniel the road was designated on the six-year plan.

Shippee said Route 633, Twin Creek Road, which saw a washout from the flooding in May is set to be back in operation by the end of the month.

He also noted bridgework set to take place at Route 639. He said once Route 633 is back in operation, motorists will be detoured through Route 633.

The routes set to see work include Route 737, Warminster Church Road; Route 699, Winfrey Inez Road; Route 764, Lee Town Road; Route 630, Red Road; Route 669, Rocky Mountain Road; Route 684, Cobbs Road; Route 785, Brill Road; Route 773, Shumaker Road; Route 676, Ridge Road; Route 763, River Ridge Road; Route 702, Ivy Road; Route 668, Hunting Shack Road; Route 768, Hunters Road; Route 679, Paynes Pond Road; Route 630, Red Road; Route 689, Crescent Road; Route 756, Wise Ridge Road; Route 673, Virginia Mill Road; Route 739, Blackwell Road; Route 693, Wyland Road; Route 620, Mill Road and Route 627, Warren Ferry Road.
