The Farmville Town Council and Longwood University have spoken about a potential merge between the Town of Farmville’s dispatch center and Longwood University’s dispatch center.
Town Manager Gerald Spates spoke about the potential merge during its June 11 town council meeting.
“We’re working with Longwood University on, they want to consolidate their dispatch service with us,” Spates said.
“Personally I think it’s a great idea,” Town Mayor David Whitus said. “I would like to see the numbers, and see what it’s going to cost us, and what it’s going to involve before we consummate the deal.”
Spates moved the discussion to the public safety committee.
Longwood spokesperson Matt McWilliams said in a statement that the potential merge is under discussion.
“This is still in the exploratory phase, where both Longwood and the town are gathering information on any future actions,” McWilliams said. “We’re happy to be part of the process of exploring what makes sense and what is feasible.”
