William Francis Kelly

APRIL 29 — William Francis Kelly, Commander USN (retired) died at his home in Farmville on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the age of 89.

After 26 years in the US Navy, Mr. Kelly returned to civilian life as a math and physics teacher. He taught at Prince Edward Academy, Buckingham High School and as an adjunct at Longwood College. He had a life long interest in amateur and ham radios as well as computers in later life.

Mr. Kelly is survived by his wife, Rebecca Blair Kelly; daughters, Mary Seward Claybourn (Charles) of Clemmons, NC and Corydon Kelly of Winston Salem, NC; sons, Patrick Kelly of St. Paul, MN and Courtney Kelly of Staunton; nephews, Arthur Howard of Annandale and John Howard of Sacramento, CA; and great-nephews, Drew and Kenneth Howard of Annandale. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Francis and Catherine Louise Hart Kelly and sister, Harriet Kelly Howard.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 26 at the Farmville Baptist Church.

Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
