Rain, rain go away for a while then come again in about two or three weeks. We sure did need the rain.
The Prospect Historical Society has raffle tickets for an 8 by 12 foot shed (by Buggy Top), STIHL MS170 powersaw and $50 cash. Members of the society have tickets as well as Merk’s Place. The drawing will take place on the July 3.
The Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary appreciates everyone for their support during its grilled chicken dinner on the 19th. Those of us who won a door prize really enjoyed the dinner. Their next dinner will be the meatloaf dinner June 16, make your plans.
The Prospect Happy Hats met on Thursday, May 10, at Merk’s Place for fellowship and lunch. Sue Ellen Case was the hostess. Case gave each member present a token of friendship. Those joining Case were Jeannette Tarlton, Rita Rountree, Elsie Wilson, Pat Smith, Lois Johnson, Hilda Allen, Jean Hensley and Margaret Stockton.
Friday, May 11, Mr. Dan Althouse from East Earl, Pennsylvania, was an overnight guest in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith.
Saturday, May 12, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith attended the graduation ceremony of their granddaughter, Christina Smith held at Randolph Henry High School.
Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith hosted the monthly covered dish for the Faith Bible Fellowship Small Group on Monday evening. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Richard McClintock, Hilde Watson and Mr. and Mrs. John Utzinger.
Monday the United Daughters of the Confederacy Farmville Chapter 45 will sponsor a Memorial Day service at 11 a.m. at the Confederate cemetery. The guest speaker will be Patrick Schrader, historian for the Appomattox Historical Park. The Sons of the Confederate Veterans Camp 1581 will take part on the program. The cemetery is located off North Main Street across the Cumberland Bridge. Bring a chair.
A dedication of a Historical sign will be held June 2, at 3 p.m. for the Farmville/Prince Edward cemetery at the entrance to the cemetery on Route 45. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Friends and neighbors continue to pray for Betty Meadows, Henry Shelton, Don Meadows and Betty Jean Bolt.
