One dead in crash

A driver died following a two-vehicle accident between a car and a bus Tuesday afternoon.
Katherine C. Hobgood, 68, of Meherrin, died at the scene, a news release from Virginia State Police reported.
Police noted that Hobgood, the driver of a 2014 Chevrolet Captiva, “was traveling south on Route 15 when it crossed the center line and struck head-on a northbound Cumberland County school bus.”
There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the incident, the release noted.
The incident took place approximately 300 feet north of Route 701 on Route 15, the release cited.
“The male driver of the school bus was transported to (Centra) Southside Community Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries,” the release cited. “There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the crash.” The release noted that both Hobgood and the driver of the school bus were wearing seatbelts.
The incident is being investigated by Virginia State Police Senior Trooper J.T. Farriss, the release noted.
