Following a public hearing, members of the Farmville Town Council voted in favor of abandoning an alleyway in the area of 127 N. Main St. Wednesday.
The ownership for the 10-foot strip of land in the area where the former Wells-Fargo bank drive-thru location had been, which has since been converted to a parking lot, will be split between Steve Wall, Walk2Campus and the Hotel Weyanoke.
When describing the property during last Wednesday’s Town Council work session, Town Manager Gerald Spates said “half of the alley is a 10-foot alley, half of it would revert to Farmville Printing. The other half would go to Matt King (Walk2Campus) and there’s a little portion in the back that would end up going to the Hotel Weyanoke.”
No members of the public spoke during the hearing.
“We really have no mechanism that we’ve ever charged for an alleyway,” Spates said during the work session. He said the recommendation would be for the town to abandon the alleyway.
Spates said during Wednesday’s town council meeting that the town would relinquish all rights to the property.
