Gold Panning Workshops Set At Holliday Lake
Published 5:31 pm Tuesday, April 15, 2014
Gold was found in Central Virginia in the 1800s. Pioneer miners had lots of clues to help them fine gold. In a three-hour workshop participants in the Holliday Lake State Park Gold Panning Workshops will learn to look for these clues and practice using the equipment once used. This new found knowledge will be put to work along Holliday Creek to look for gold. Participants will canoe across Holliday Lake and up Holliday Creek about a mile to get to the gold panning site. Gold panning is not for the faint-of-heart!
This workshop is being offered on the following dates: Saturday, April 26, 1 p.m.; Saturday, May 3 – 1 p.m.; Saturday, July 19 – 10 a.m.; Saturday, July 26, 10 a.m.
A $6 fee per person includes the use of the canoes and special tools. These poplar workshops fill up quickly! Registration is limited, so please call the park to register at 434-248-6308 or by email: hollidaylake@dcr.virginia.gov.
