FARMVILLE — Farmville police are investigating a stabbing that occurred during Longwood University’s Spring Weekend.
Police Chief Doug Mooney reported in a Tuesday press release that Farmville police responded to a report on Sunday, April 13 of “a person down on the sidewalk in the 200 block of Garden Street at approximately 2:07 a.m.”
Officers, the police chief reports, “found the 18-year old male severely wounded from multiple stab wounds.”
According to Chief Mooney, the police investigation “revealed the victim was assaulted and stabbed by a group of males in a nearby parking lot. The victim, who was robbed of personal items, was stabilized and remains in a hospital recovering from non-life threatening injuries.”
The police chief reports that the victim is not a Longwood student but was in Farmville attending off-campus parties for the Spring Weekend.
Chief Mooney told The Herald on Monday, “The young man lost a lot of blood. He’s lucky. If he hadn’t been found there’s a good chance he could have bled out (to death).”
Chief Mooney also said that both fire department and police personnel later responded to the scene to clean the blood off the sidewalk.
“It was true. They came down twice,” Chief Mooney said, adding “you can’t hose it down but so much.”
Bleach was also used.
“Yeah, they did. They bleached it. In fact, one of the patrol officers bleached the sidewalk,” Chief Mooney said.
The police department is urging anyone with information about this crime to contact Detective David Ragland at 434-392-2112.
