Davis, a senior at James Madison University, joined the department at 16 as a junior firefighter, Dillwyn VFD Chief Jason Wharam said.

“He’s been very instrumental,” Wharam said about Davis’ service, noting that Davis has been a needed asset to the fire department.

Wharam noted that Davis has completed several rounds of training, including those relating to firefighter 1 and hazmat operations.

“He’s got a very good personality and a very good working attitude,” Wharam said.

Wharam said Davis has, for the past several months, worked part time with Rockingham County Fire & Rescue.

Wharam said Davis also is well involved in the Buckingham community, even coming from James Madison University (JMU) with his brother, Brent, to participate in the Womanless Beauty Pageant that took place in March.

“He’s always been community involved,” Wharam said.

Cheryl Davis, Cody’s mother, said he has continued his service while enrolled at JMU, joining the Hose Company 4 Volunteer Fire Department (HC4FD) and serving as an EMS officer. In addition, Cheryl said he also served as a wildland firefighter.

“Cody knows who he is and what he stands for, and I am immensely proud,” Cheryl said, noting that Davis will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences on Saturday. “I am a mother filled with love, pride, respect and hope for my sons.”

“He’s a good person,” Wharam noted about Davis.
