The Heart of Virginia has seen a lot of growth in the past few years, an exciting development that brings with it a promise of new experiences and new opportunities.

The Town of Farmville recently released the numbers to back up this growth, reporting a total increase of revenue by 3.77 percent from 2016-2017 with a total of $1.4 million in revenue in 2017.

These opportunities continue to become apparent with the grand opening of the Tru Hilton Hotel at 1913 S. Main St. last Thursday.

The hotel’s 106 rooms come at just the right time as both Longwood University and Hampden- Sydney College graduation ceremonies are underway.

“We’re excited to be part of this growing town,” Raj Patel, spokesperson for the hotel, said.

The grand opening of Hotel Weyanoke, just days away on May 7, is set to bring 70 rooms, dozens of jobs, three restaurants and a coffee shop.

Restaurant sales were also among the items that the town reported having an increase of revenue in 2017. The town reported in the news release that restaurant sales have increased by $4 million.

There’s been plenty of new options that have cropped up in the past year, from the re-opening of Huddle House and Little Caesar’s to new, Tex-Mex southwestern restaurant One19. Pineview Grocery store, which recently opened on Plank Road in Cumberland County, is another retail option for the area.

Farmville is growing, and we at The Herald are excited to see it happen. Adjusting to the growth and making sure the changes are accessible and welcoming to all residents and visitors seems par for the course, but we believe the town is striking the right balance between welcoming needed growth while preserving the area’s history.
