Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to Nora Atkinson, of Dillwyn, Monday, April 7, and Florence Lango, of Dillwyn, Louise Crewes, of Buckingham, and Cheryl Canipe, of Henrico, Wednesday, April 9.

Our thoughts and prayers for a continued speedy recovery to all those who are sick and shut-in.

The Buckingham County High School Classes of 1988, 89 and 90 invite all to join them for a Lets Fight Cancer Together car and bike show on Saturday, April 12, from noon to 4 p.m. at Teresa’s Place, located at 15055 North James Madison Highway, Dillwyn. One half-mile form Sprouses Corner. (the rain date is Saturday, April 26) There will be a 50/50 raffle with music by “Isaac Randolph.” First and second place prizes will be awarded for best in show in the following categories: cars pre- 1940’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 1990’s to the present. Also, best in show in motorcycles, domestic stock, metric stock, domestic custom and metric custom will also be awarded. The pre-registration fee is $10 and $15 the day of the event. Welcome Wesleyan Church, located on North James Madison Highway one mile North of Central Virginia Community Health Center, will host a special service on Palm Sunday, April 13, at 11 a.m. God commended it, Israel celebrated it, Jesus fulfilled it. First Baptist Church, located on Oak Street in Dillwyn, will host a benefit for Kay Hoover who has medical needs. Dinner will begin at 5 p.m. and include hamburgers, hotdogs, salads, dessert and beverage. At 6:30 p.m. gospel music will feature Second Time Around and Worm Patterson and All Problems Solved. There will be no charge, however donations are requested. This is being sponsored by Helping Hands of First Baptist Church of Dillwyn.

The Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association will hold their regular monthly meeting on Monday, April 7 at 5 p.m. at Hatcher Baptist Church Cumberland. All members are asked to attend and bring a covered dish. Following this will be the association’s annual flower/plant exchange. Union Branch Baptist Church, located on Bridgeport Road in Arvonia, will host a benefit spaghetti dinner on April 11 from 5-7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. This event is being sponsored to support the food ministry of Union Branch Baptist Church. Tickets for adults are $7, children six-12 – $5 and children five years and under are free.

Barry Miles of Cumberland invites all to join him for an afternoon of Southern Gospel music at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Dillwyn on Friday afternoon April 4, at 4:30 p.m.

Spreading God’s Gifts, Inc. is a local non-profit home-grown faith-based ministry organization that assists working individuals or families in need primarily serving Buckingham and surrounding counties. On Saturday evening, April 12, from 6-8 p.m. in the Buckingham County High School Gymnasium, Spreading God’s Gifts Inc. will sponsor Bluegrass/Bluegrass Gospel featuring Ralph Stanley II and Band. General admission tickets are on sale now. Adults $10 in advance and $15 at the door day of show. Tickets for children six to twelve years old are $5. Children five years and under are free. Purchase advance tickets on or before Thursday, April 10, at area businesses. Funds resulting from this event will help individuals and families in the hour of need. Union Branch Baptist Church, located on Bridgeport Road in Arvonia, will host their April Food Destruction on Saturday, April 12, from 9-11 a.m. Recipients must be a Buckingham County resident. Buckingham Baptist Church of Gold Hill is hosting marriage counseling classes on Sunday evenings at 5 p.m.: The Marriage You’ve Always Wanted class. Pastor Doug Adams is the instructor.

Buckingham Baptist Church of Gold Hill hosts a fellowship meal and Bible study Wednesday evenings. Supper is served from 5:15-6:15 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. Enjoy a complete meal for $3 per person. Ages three years and under are free. The maximum cost of $12 a family. Following this there will be Bible Study. The Appomattox County High School Athletic Booster Club is presenting an Appomattox Bluegrass Concert Series. The third concert of the series presents The Rascals at the Appomattox County High School Auditorium on Sunday, April 6 at 2 p.m. Advance tickets for adults are $15; at the door tickets will be $20.
