Tigers ride excellent first half to 20-7 victory over Hornets

Hampden-Sydney College’s (H-SC) lacrosse team scored 13 of the first 14 goals during Saturday’s game in Winchester against host Shenandoah University as the Tigers defeated the Hornets 20-7 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) showdown.

H-SC’s Wilson Booth went 13-of-15 on faceoffs with 12 ground balls.

Ian Levin contributed a game-high six points, all in the first half, on three scores and three assists. Connor Pool recorded a hat trick on just three shots. Hunter Brown posted two goals and an assist. Jared Medwar, Chandler Shaheen and Justin Freeman each found the back of the net twice.

Marshall Via forced three turnovers. Jake Brummett won 7-of-10 face-offs and scooped five ground balls. Jack Hayden scored once and assisted on another. Charlie Doetzer handed out two assists.

The Tigers held advantages in ground balls (40-8), face-offs won (20-11), shots (47-25) and shots on goal (36-20).

Hampden-Sydney (10- 4, 6-1 ODAC) returns to action Wednesday when it hosts William Peace University at 4 p.m. The Tigers have only three games left in the regular season before looking to defend their conference tournament title.
